Coventry Cycle Works
Policy for
Shipping Bicycles/Trikes

First of all, shipping costs have “gone to the moon” and UPS and FedEx often-times come back to us, weeks after a shipment has been delivered, with an additional “fuel surcharge” of $25.00 - 50.00. Additionally, our shop's scale was purchased to hang bicycles from to obtain a close/general idea of their weight; we're not in the shipping business - that's why UPS stores and FedEx Kinko's have serious, accurate, big scales.

Second, we do not always have boxes on hand that will fit your particular bicycle at the time you need it shipped. It takes a LOT of time to make a custom box and as a retail sales and repair shop we do not carry/stock packing materials as part of our inventory; we recycle the packing materials of new bicycles that we purchase for resale to pack your bike… that means, we may not have packing materials on-hand because we can't store all the boxes and packing material we receive "in case".

Even more important is the cost of time of the mechanic who boxes your bike and the time spent in our back office, doing all of the paperwork on line and the accounting costs related to same. We have found ourselves “eating” many dollars in “after-the-fact” costs that we have had no luck getting reimbursed for by the very people we've helped out to get their bike to some special event - very disheartening.

Therefore…

We have to establish the following policy:

We will properly box your bicycle for a prepaid cost of $65.00-$100 IF we have:

1.  Time in our schedule of already promised/committed repairs and
new bike builds for our other customers that is in harmony with
your deadline/needs

2.  A box to fit your bike and

3.  Adequate packing materials readily on hand

We will measure the box and weigh it on our scale, then call you with this information.

You will be responsible for making all arrangements for the boxed bike to be picked up at our location by the shipping agent of your choice during our advertised business hours and you will pay all shipping charges and related future fuel surcharges directly to that agent from your own accounts.

We're sorry that this has to be, but in challenging times we cannot afford to continue shipping bikes (and losing) as we have been. We're always happy to help when we can, but the survival of our shop comes first and foremost.

Respectfully,

The Staff at Coventry Cycle Works
